Welcome To Our Blog!

Kingston Vale Montessori Nursery School for 2 to 5 year olds has been established since 1981. The school operates from two main rooms in

St John’s Church Hall in Kingston Vale. The nursery serves local families from a range of backgrounds and cultures by providing places for children each weekday morning from 09.15 to 12.45 term time only.

The aim of our school is to provide excellent Montessori education in a happy, relaxed and secure environment. The philosophy of Montessori education emphasises the potential of the individual in ways specific to each child at their own learning pace. Our teachers are trained in the use of the special Montessori teaching materials. These provide each child with a variety of multi -sensory learning experiences and we structure the use of these within our broader curriculum which shares the underlying principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We wish all our lovely Caterpillars and Butterflies a very happy Christmas and look forward to a fun and exciting New Year. Thank you to our wonderful parents for all their support and for getting their children to our Christmas concert in their fabulous nativity costumes. We were so proud of the children and their magnificent singing.
Merry Christmas, see you in the New Year.

Fireworks...

We really enjoyed making our fireworks art this week. The Butterflies splat-painted and made rockets and the Caterpillars made and decorated rockets. We loved making our sausage rolls too.

Next week we will be supporting Children in Need on Friday 13 November. We kindly ask all children to come dressed in spots to raise lots and invite them to make a donation of £2 which we will donate to Children in Need. You are also invited to come to our bake sale on Friday where we will be selling cakes made by the teachers and the children to raise money for Children in Need. Thank you for your support!

Harvest time and Leonardo da Vinci

This week, the Caterpillars continued with their harvest theme. They enjoyed pasta and learnt this is also made from wheat and re-read The Little armed Hen story. They also looked at vegetables and learnt the names of vegetables like leek, carrot, cauliflower and corn. On Thursday, the Caterpillars got chopping and made a delicious vegetable soup which they then enjoyed together.

Meanwhile, the Butterflies got in touch with their inner Leonardo's. They admired works of art like the Mona Lisa, the Last Supper and Lady with an Ermine. They painted their own works of art and on Friday, got inventing doing what is now called "creative design with recyclable materials" (formerly known as junk modelling!)

As well as working with the Montessori materials, the children had fun eating pasta in an Italian restaurant, singing new songs with Mr Ed and playing clowns in Miss Debbie's circus in dance and movement.

Finally, we continued to work with the children on their "grace and courtesy" skills. Our puppets, Bella and Maxie, are on holiday and will return after half term to focus on topics like taking turns, sharing and asking for help. This week, we introduced "The Kindness Tree" to the children. When the children are observed doing something kind for their peers (e.g. sharing) or their teachers (e.g. helping or listening) they are invited to find the peg with their name on it and place it on the Kindness Tree. At the end of the day, we discuss with the children why their name is in the Kindness Tree.

We wish you all a lovely half term and look forward to seeing you on Monday 2 November.
